For me, climbing is a way to see the world differently. I can safely step beyond of my comfort zone when climbing and soak in mother nature in all her glory.
No screens, no traffic, no pollution, no (life) stress – I love it!
I focus on securely mapping out ten moves in advance to clear my thinking. Climbing's "obvious" requirements forbid outside negative ideas. It is a heightened yet healthy mental state.
I began by registering for basic skills classes at Melbourne University. The primary beginning point included safety procedures and proper climbing ettiqutte. With growing confidence, this prepared me for more advanced courses and more difficult climbs.
Climbing allows and invites all skill & fitness levels.
We frequently visit an indoor climbing wall throughout the week to practise harder simulated moves. This is where there may occasionally be "friendly" competition with safety guaranteed.
We also like working out at the gym with hanging exercises. We work our way down to two fingers after starting with two hand hangs!
Oh, and rock-climbing friends are true friends. At times, they are literally holding your existence in their hands. In an age of RUOK & Gotcha for Life, climbing demands genuine respect and consideration for each other.
